Haputale

Haputale

Haputale sits at the southern edge of Sri Lanka’s spectacular hill country and offers incredible views of the south coast on a clear day. This area is ideal for walking and hiking, thanks to its cooler, less humid climate and dramatic vistas at every turn. Some of the island’s most picturesque waterfalls—Dunhinda, Diyaluma, and Ravana—are located near Haputale and Ella, making them well worth a visit.

Lipton’s Seat is also easily accessible from Haputale; it was the favored viewpoint of Sir Thomas Lipton, the Scotsman who followed in James Taylor’s footsteps and established extensive tea plantations in Sri Lanka’s hills. You can drive to the top or stroll through gently sloping tea estates, taking in the astonishing panoramas along the way. It is one of the most glorious viewpoints in Sri Lanka.
