Usually occurring in July or August, the Kandy Esala Perahera is among Sri Lanka’s most breathtaking festivities. Honoring the Buddha’s Sacred Tooth Relic, this great festival showcases the island’s rich past via an incredible procession. With a brilliant display of drummers, traditional dancers, and elaborately ornamented elephants marching across the city, Kandy’s streets come to life as their majesty lights the evening.
Every night the event ends spectacularly with separate processions. The ancient alleyways’ scent of incense and the pulse of traditional music filling them produce an amazing atmosphere.
